Apple iOS 10 says Goodbye to “side to unlock” feature

Apple revealed many plans and features in the keynote event of WWDC 2016 at San Francisco. Apple’s announcement for all versions of iPhone and iPad brought a fundamental change on how to unlock your iOS devices. As for any phone, without noticing we either swipe the screen or slide the screen to unlock our phones. Once this new iOS 10, enters in the fall, “slide to unlock” feature will be no more.

When it was first introduced, features have been much easy to access the home screen, but now in iOS 10 users need to unlock it with touch ID and then tap the button of the screen, where it says, “Press home to open”.

This is only possible, because of the Raise to Wake feature. Screen will be automatically turned on as soon as you pick the phone. And hence there will be no need to physically press the home button in order to light the device.

Craig Federighi- Apple VIP of Software Engineering highlighted that, swiping your screen left and right will instead give the access of camera app as well as other widgets. They have given the touch of seamless interactive lock screen which permits the user to access the notifications without unlocking their phones.

With all these new features, it has two left and right swiping gestures that pays off Slide to unlock. As we move on to the iOS 10’s new “Press home to unlock” era and embrace it fully, it’s perhaps time to say goodbye to the iconic Slide-to-Unlock (2007-2016) feature of iPhone. Needless to say, it has served over a billion very well.
